A Simple and easy cocktail
Yeah, being a bartender, I do get lazy at home. That’s what home is capable of transforming you into. It makes you lazy:) . Must say it’s a blessing to have a home. A place dedicated to relaxing and being at ease. No matter how many cocktails I make at bars, events, weddings, or wherever I’m required to make cocktails, I’m there, ready for action. But when at home, it’s totally the opposite. And the only time I make cocktails at home is when I’m doing it for my You Tube channel. And to temporarily take care of such a cocktail, here is a simple and easy cocktail with gin to make at home without much effort
When it comes to churning cocktails, it does take an effort. And sometimes that effort is the leading cause for me to have my drinks straight up with a block of ice. From the bottle straight to the glass is a motto most of us follow when it comes to drinking at home. But this would be an entirely different scenario had there been a bartender at home to take care of all the cocktail needs. The spirit need not matter here; a vodka, a gin, a tequila or even a whiskey, anything would do fine, it would all depend on the expertise of the prevailing bartender. It need not be an arduous one, Just a simple cocktail, provided it’s done well, would be a perfect companion to hang out with.
How to get yourself a Simple and Easy Cocktail
Gin has witnessed an impressive rise in brand and consumption across India in the last decade or so. I do remember in my early days of bartending, I would hardly churn more than a couple of cocktails with gin. And no looking further than a Gin tonic or a Tom Collins. But with the rise in gin consumption, things have now changed. Better or worse, only time can decide. This also resulted in an unprecedented rise in gin cocktails. The so-called signature cocktails have now taken over, and gin seems to be their favourite go-to spirit for their cocktails. But for now, let’s do a classic cocktail, “Gimlet” – A simple and easy classic cocktail with gin.
Gimlet Ingredients
- Gin
- Lime
- Sugar
- Ice
Bar equipment required
- Cocktail shaker
- Bar spoon
- Measuring Jigger
- Strainer
Gimlet recipe
- Add 2 barspoon of sugar to a cocktail shaker
- Squeeze and drop 3 lime wedges into it ( gently muddle if required )
- Add ice to the shaker
- Close the shaker and give it a nice hard shake
- Open and strain the drink over a glass cocktail glass
- Garnish with a lime wheel
- Walla! There you go, one easy, fast and simple cocktail
The Gimlet, a classic that can be found at any bar. And the best part, you can make yourself one at home as well without much of a hiccup. But the gin quality plays a vital role in the outcome of the cocktail. It’s actually the same with every gin cocktail, not just the Gimlet. I would recommend going for a dry gin and avoiding the compound gin. The sweet-sour flavour with a hint of botanical notes from the gin makes it a great drink to have any time of the year. And the best part is it’s a simple and easy cocktail to make 😉 .
