Cashew Feni Cocktail

Have you ever heard of cashew feni? Probably, you haven’t yet visited Goa. Cashew Feni is a GI (Geographical Indication) of Goa, India. We won’t be talking about Goa today. Feni, the Cashew Feni Cocktail, is what we’re here for—sourced from the juice of the Cashew apple. Cashew Feni can only be produced and bottled in the state of Goa. Everything, from the fruits to the water, distillation, and bottling, has to be sourced and done in Goa. If it does not meet any of the above criteria, we can’t call it cashew feni

Cocktails and Feni

There are no verified historical documents on the origin of this phenomenon. However, from what I understand, Cashew Feni has always been an integral part of Goan culture—a spirit distilled in almost every home in Goa. And due to its strong aroma, open a bottle of cashew feni, rest assured, everyone present in the room will know. Not a drink you would prefer to have on the rocks, till you get the hang of it. But it goes wonderfully well with mixers. “Cashew Feni Cocktails” is the best way to have it. However, if not done well, the cocktail could have an adverse effect and might even make you dislike Feni. It needs an expert hand or an experienced bartender to craft a “ Cashew Feni Cocktail”. You’re in the right place, I guess.

This cocktail comes without any burden of History behind it. This one would undeniably rank high up there in cocktails if you asked me—one of my favourites for the taste and ease of making it. The easy-to-source and fresh ingredients used in crafting this cocktail make it an even better value. A refreshing drink which can be had any time of the day, and a great cocktail to have on a summer day

Cocktail ingredients

  1. Sugar – 2 bar spoon
  2. Fresh Lime – 4 Chunks
  3. Cashew feni – 50 ml
  4. Cracked ice
  5. Orange (Malta)

bar Equipment

  1. Muddler
  2. Bar Spoon
  3. Measuring jigger
  4. Old Fashioned glass

How to make a cashew feni cocktail

  1. Add four lime wedges to an old-fashioned glass
  2. Add 2 bar spoon sugar to the lime
  3. Gently muddle the wedges ( do not kill it 😉 )
  4. Fill the glass up with cracked ice
  5. Add 50 ml of cashew feni to it
  6. Gently lift the drink with a bar spoon
  7. Drop a freshly cut orange wheel in the drink and let it sink

The orange does the magic here. The flavours from the orange enhance the flavour of the feni, giving it a refreshing taste. And the sugar and lime give it a slightly tangy flavour. Making it neither too sweet nor too sour. This all enhances the existing flavours of the cashew feni in the cocktail. This one is unquestionably one of my favourite cocktails. Highly recommended cocktail for anyone who loves or hates cashew feni.

Cheers !!
