Caipirinha – the Brazilian cocktail
Caipirinha – now this is a special one. What if I told you there’s something known as the “national Drink”? Most of the countries, if not all, have a title called “National Drink”. Just like national animals and national birds, there are countries which also have a national drink. On my quest to unearth the truth, I did uncover “Chai” (tea) as the national drink of India. Being an Indian, I was not at all aware of this, nor was I quite sure if there was any truth behind it. If anyone out there does know, do share it with us. Nevertheless, let me introduce you to the National drink of Brazil– “Caipirinha”.
Many might mistake my many for rum. Cachaca is an entity of its own. Made from fresh fermented sugarcane juice, cachaca can only be made and produced in Brazil. Just like tequila to Mexico, Cashew Fenni to Goa, so is the Cachaca to Brazil. Generally, Cachaca is a colourless spirit. While some aged in wooden barrels tend to develop a golden or amber colour. But when it comes to the caipirinha? We usually prefer the colourless Cachaca.

Made from cachaca and some of the most easily sourced ingredients, this classic cocktail won’t fail to amuse you. Cachaca, not being readily available in India, makes it an arduous cocktail to find in the bars out here. But you can easily make yourself one at home. All you require is a bottle of cachaca at home; the rest of the ingredients can be easily sourced. If you still require further assistance? This blog could be helpful with the Caipirinha cocktail recipe 🙂 .
The national cocktail of Brazil
The flavours derived from lime and sugar pair well with most of the spirits out there. When we pair the lime and sugar mix with cachaca, walla !! The caipirinha. The national cocktail of Brazil”. Yes, a combination of fresh lime and sugar is all the ingredients you need. Did I just curtail the expectations? It shouldn’t be so. The flavours of the Cachaca blend mighty well with the lime and sugar mix. The slightly grassy and sharp with a hint of earthy notes adds that tongue-twisting flavour to the sour mix. If done well, the Caipirinha has the potential to brighten up your darkest days or cool your warmest days ;). It’s almost impossible to settle for just one. The tag of “National cocktail of Brazil” is truly justified.
Like we always say, simple ingredients can deliver some pizzazz cocktails.
