Today, if you see a bottle of cashew feni in the stores, there is one person whom we should all be thankful to. I do remember buying cashew feni in the early days; you had to have some good connections in Goa to get it. There was no Feni brand as such. You had to carry an empty bottle or a gallon if you needed to purchase. And even today, you find homes continuing this beautiful tradition of home-distilled cashew feni. It is said that the best cashew feni is still home-distilled. However, in 1979, everything was about to change. It was Valentino Vaz who started Big Boss, the first ever bottled cashew feni. Today, we find an array of cashew feni brands on the market. Reflecting on the growth of the cashew feni industry, and with it, Cashew Feni cocktails. With all of this arose the big question, “How do we drink cahew feni”? Initially, I had no idea whatsoever how to drink it. Everyone I knew had just one way of drinking it – The Limca way. This is the most dominant way to enjoy it. However, with changing times, feni fell into the hands of bartenders and then came the feni cocktails. There are a few bars in Goa that serve exotic cashew feni cocktails, but this is limited to just a select few. Yes, it takes a little more effort to make it. It’s Goa, and if you can’t sell feni cocktails in Goa, you can’t sell them anywhere. Well, that’s just my individual perception. And here we are with one more cashew feni cocktail

A simple cashew feni cocktail to make at home

This one is a simple cocktail with cashew feni and passion fruit. Not the first time I have used passion fruit in cocktails. And not the first time I’ve used cashew feni :). However, this one is created with a great deal of passion. Therefore, the ingredients used had to be passion fruit. An easy cocktail to make at home that tastes delicious

Cocktail Ingredients

1. Cashew Feni
2. Sugar Cube
3. Lime Wedge
4. Lime Zest
5. Ice

Bar Equipments

1. Measuring Jiger
2. Bar Spoon
3. Cocktail Shaker
4. Juleep strainer
5. Cocktail Glass

A Simple cashew feni cocktail recipe

1. Add one whole passion fruit to a cocktail shaker with one barspoon of sugar o2 one sugar cube
2. Muddle it and drop 3 lime wedges into the cocktail shaker
3. Add 50 ml of cashew feni to the shaker and fill the shaker with ice
4. Close the cocktail shaker and give it a nice hard shake
5. Open the Shaker and strain the cocktail using ajuleep strainer over a cocktail glass
6. Garnish with a lime Zest.
7. And walla, you now have one delicious tasting cashew feni cocktail

This is one delicious cocktail. The flavours from the passion fruit are loud enough, but do not overpower the cashew feni flavour in any way. The initial sweet-sour flavour of the passion fruit, followed by a short, sweet, lingering note from the cashew feni, makes this one a refreshing cocktail. If you get your hands on passion fruit, all you’ve to do is find cashew feni and habibi, and you’ve got yourself the key to a great cashew feni cocktail.
