GIN Basil smash – A simple Gin cocktail

Basil Smash is a gin-based cocktail with basil, lots of basil. Now, all the cocktails we mention in the website blog have been practically made by me. So I quite often use the word “great-tasting cocktail “. It’s only because the great-tasting cocktails make it to the video section and, thereafter, to the blogs. It has to be a unique cocktail or a great-tasting cocktail.  And the Gin Basil Smash find itself in the great-tasting cocktail category.

It is an easy-to-make cocktail with basic ingredients.  “Sometimes the greatest dishes come from the most unlikely ingredients”. That’s what PO’s father told him in KUNG FU Panda, and it is so true.  Can’t call this the greatest Cocktail, but for the ingredients part, you guys decide. 🙂 . Like we always believe here, in keeping it simple.  The gin basil smash perfectly justifies the statement. Also, keep in mind the quality of gin used in cocktails. The taste won’t differ much. But always recommended to go for a good quality gin over a compound gin.

Gin basil smash

For a basil smash, we just have basil as the main flavour for the cocktails. And we all are aware that gin is a neutral spirit redistilled with botanicals, and basil also comes under the botanical category. When used in gin cocktails, they pair up beautifully to deliver a great-tasting and refreshing cocktail. Have always loved and preferred cocktails with fresh ingredients. And this one is no exception. It’s a perfect example of how simple ingredients can deliver a great cocktail.

For all the time I have served the basil smash, there has not been a single incident where it failed to astonish people. Most found it hard to believe a cocktail with such simple ingredients could be such a pizazz cocktail. The cocktail colour green also gives it a nice nature-like look. This is when people are more health-conscious, with health being prioritised. They here tend to associate health with the colour of cocktails. Green is considered the most favourable colour. Like they say in the movies, ” the colour of nature” 😉 . We all know the colour of nature, but you never know how much truth is in the health part of it. When it comes to the basil smash, it’s undoubtedly an all-natural ingredient cocktail.

Falling under the modern classic category, the gin basil smash is formally known as “GIN PIESTO. The Gin Basil Smash was a creation of Jorg Meyer. Le Lion Bar in Hamburg, Germany, where the cocktail was first made. It drew its inspiration from the whiskey smash cocktail. As the cocktail grew in popularity around Germany and Europe, it found its way to the list of modern classic cocktails.
